Mackenzie Maison, a doctoral student in physical therapy, led a small team of graduate students in the collection of pilot data for a new athlete "classification" system. Classification describes the ways athletes with disabilities are evaluated for competition inclusion and fairness. Her team studied athletes who play soccer using electric or "power" wheelchairs. Here data is being used by the international power wheelchair "football" association as part of the application to the Paralympic Games. At this point, there are no team events at the Games for athletes who use power wheelchairs so this work reaches a lot of stakeholders.
